Patriata, often called New Murree, is a hilltop destination east of Murree town in northern Punjab. It is best known for its chairlift and cable car system, which connect forested slopes to elevated viewpoints overlooking the surrounding hills.
Unlike Murree’s crowded central areas, Patriata feels more open and spaced out. It is not a resort town and has no old bazaars or colonial streets. People come here for one main reason: to move slowly through the hills, ride above the treetops, and spend a few quiet hours in cooler air.
Patriata works best as a half-day stop, either as part of a Murree visit or as a short escape from Islamabad during summer.

Patriata sits in the lower Himalayan foothills, surrounded by pine forests and rolling ridges. The area is part of the Murree hill system but lies at a slightly higher, more open elevation than Murree Mall Road.
The destination developed mainly after the installation of the chairlift and cable car, which made the upper viewpoints accessible to families and casual visitors. There is no deep historical background attached to Patriata. Its importance is practical rather than cultural.
The climate here follows Murree’s seasonal pattern, with mild summers, monsoon rains, and cold winters.
The main attraction is the two-stage ride. The chairlift passes through dense forest, followed by a cable car that climbs higher toward the viewpoint. From above, visitors get wide views of hills, valleys, and layered ridgelines.
At the top station, there are walking paths and open areas where visitors can sit, take photographs, and observe the landscape. On clear days, visibility extends across several hill ranges.
The area is suitable for light walking rather than hiking. Paths are informal and mostly flat near the top, making it accessible for families.
Patriata offers strong opportunities for landscape photography, especially in the early morning or late afternoon, when light is softer, and clouds move across the hills.

Access point: Murree or Islamabad
From Murree, the road to Patriata is well-paved but narrow in sections. Private cars, taxis, and local transport are commonly used.
There is a ticketed entry system for the chairlift and cable car. Prices may vary by season and are set by local authorities. There is no general entry fee for the area itself.

Seasonal notes:
Warm clothing is recommended even in summer, especially in the evening.
Patriata’s appeal comes from its forests and open views. Visitors should avoid littering, respect natural surroundings, and stay within designated areas. Loud music and careless behavior reduce others’ experience and put pressure on the environment.
This is not a picnic ground. It is a viewing and walking space meant to be treated lightly.
